Located in the beautiful Santa Ynez Valley, Los Alamos is a pleasant town in California where the air is clean and the sun is shining. The phrase Los Alamos is actually Spanish for "the cottonwoods," and that phrase suites the town perfectly, since there are many such trees to be found there. In fact, the town's scenic view is one of the things that makes it so enjoyable, with its huge trees, grassy hills and close mountain views.
Los Alamos was founded in 1876 by two ranchers, and the rest is now history. It has grown to become one of the area's most prosperous cities, with many successful vineyards, vegetable farms, and ranches of all kinds. The abundance of ranches in Los Alamos makes it a great place to raise animals, especially horses. There are many high quality horse breeders in the area, and some of the best racing stock in all of California comes from these local breeders. Different types of horses are bred in the area, but the Valley has a long history of raising good cow horses, fine race horses and elegant Arabians.
Los Alamos is also a great place to live if you enjoy cycling and jogging. There are many excellent trails and tours for cyclists and jogging enthusiasts, and for those who enjoy competition, marathons and competitions are held annually. Each trail and tour gives you an excellent view of the scenic area that you are sure to appreciate. The town is also rather close to the ocean, so if you want to visit the beach often you only have about an hour's drive at most. But there are many other things that make Los Alamos an excellent place to live other than its beautiful ranches, award-winning vineyards and old west landscape.
First, the many great galleries, shops and historic places certainly add to the town's appeal. Much like all of the other towns located in the Santa Ynez Valley, Los Alamos combines small town privacy and quiet living with the cache of being a renowned vineyard area. Though the town only has a population of around 1,000 people, there are many excellent restaurants, cafes, wine tasting shops, grocery stores and shops of all kinds. Of specific interest to most people new to the area are the many exquisite antique shops located in the town. There are many treasured collectables to be found at these stores. Also of interest are the many historic ranches and ranch homes that are part of early Spanish land grants and their descendants.
All in all, Los Alamos is an outstanding place in which to live and invest. Its small town nature and big city business means that there is plenty to do and see, yet it is quiet, safe, and generally hospitable in comparison to other towns in the state. The economy in Los Alamos is steady, which means that there is little risk in investing, and the property in the area is simply exquisite.
